contracture n : an abnormal and usually permanent contraction of a muscle
A contracture is a shortening of a muscle or tendon in the human body in response to stress exerted on that muscle or tendon. In muscle contracture, force is generated in the absence of electrical activity. Contractures can result from such disease processes as muscular dystrophy; surgical intervention is usually required.
